"An array of fresh dark and blue-fruit aromas, together with hints of baking spices, chocolate and crushed rocks. Full-bodied and compact with firm, polished tannins and delicious, succulent fruit. Refined and firm on the finish. 86% merlot and 14% cabernet franc."
- James Suckling

"Fragranced milk chocolate and black cherries on the nose - a gorgeous smell. Rush of fresh fruity flavours on the palate - blueberries, raspberries and blackcurrants alongside hints of minty, stony bitterness that edge the fruit giving texture and tang. Round with silky tannins. Easy to drink and easy to recommend."

"Always a juicy, delicious wine, the 2019 Château Puygueraud offers a deep purple hue as well as loads of blue fruits, plenty of peppery herbs, violets, and tobacco, medium-bodied richness and depth, and the elegant, balanced style of the vintage front and center. My money is on this easily being an outstanding wine that will drink well right out of the gate yet also keep for 7-8 years."
- Jeb Dunnuck

"Composed of 86% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Puygueraud was harvested from the 27th of September to the 11th of October. Yields were 47 hectoliters per hectare this year. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it leaps from the glass with vibrant black cherries, crushed plums and black raspberry scents with hints of black truffles, fertile loam and wild thyme plus a hint of crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers loads of earth-laced black fruit layers with a seriously refreshing line and firm, chewy tannins, finishing on a compelling wild mushroom note."

Georges Thienpont bought the 14th century château in 1946, but didn’t start growing wine until the 1980s. Puygueraud’s first vintage was in 1983 and since then has gone from strength to strength under the winemaking prowess of Nicolas Thienpont. The Côtes de Francs appellation was awarded AC status in 1967 and sits on Bordeaux’s Right Bank - it has a terroir similar to the great wines of Pomerol - Merlot planted on clay and limestone soils. Puygueraud’s 40 hectares are predominantly Merlot but also grow Cabernet Franc and Malbec for its reds and Sauvignon Gris and Sauvignon Blanc for its white.
