"Made in a mix of wood and tank, 55/45%, with 8% new wood in all. This is a blend made from 2.5ha of Les Rougereaux, higher and north facing, along with Les Chazelles - more typically Montagny -which is made apart and then blended in. Pale lemon and lime with a nose of significantly more depth and class than the Bourgogne. Precision once again, fuller bodied, less sucrosity because of the increased fruit density, apples, some pears with a light citrus wash plus the valuable youthful bitterness. Drink from 2025-2027."

"What I love about this wine is the showcase of aromas and flavours, which are so contrasting yet working perfectly in sync. Grilled nuts, pulpy yellow fruit, cream, and butter. It is more fragrant on the palate, with white pear, dried chamomile flowers, and a fine line of acidity that overcomes the lees work and oak, which gladly melt into the wine."

“The village-level Montagny from Aline Beauné stands out elegant and refined, with ripe white peach and seamlessly integrated oak. Fresh acidity and a long, harmonious finish. Sourced from two hillside parcels—one high and north-facing, the other lower and northeast-facing—fermented in both tank and old oak for balance and complexity. This is a classic introduction to white burgundy, tight, linear and complex. Very serious Chardonnay that you would be paying a lot more for if the address was further up the road in Burgundy!”

Made from two plots. The first is amongst the highest in Montagny, facing north and with a heavy clay soil, difficult to work but, Aline says, perfect for Chardonnay. The second is lower, with a mix of clay and limestone pebbles, facing north-east. The two plots are fermented and aged separately, with the final blend before bottling. 45% concrete, 55% barrel, of which only 8% are new. The net result is there is no big obvious oak to take away from the precise & elegant Chardonnay fruit.
Aline Beauné is a winemaker to watch. More and more people are looking outside the main Côte of Burgundy for wines that mortals can afford, and this attention is drawing talent out of these regions. Aline has been making wine at the top tier in Santenay for over a decade, but all the while her parents have been renting out a familial plot in Montagny. In 2018, the contract with the previous tenants on 5 HA of prime vineyard land expired. Aline jumped at the opportunity to take over these vines and start her own domaine. The previous tenants were farming responsibly, but Aline felt the land had more to offer. She is transitioning to organic farming and already using some biodynamic treatments to ease this transition for the vines. The wines in 2022 are shimmering and gorgeous - and she is just getting started.
