Domaine la Meulière Chablis 2022
94 POINTS: Wine Direct Tasting Team
"The 2022 Village Chablis from Domaine de la Meulière has expressive aromas of citrus, white stone fruit and flowers with a rounded palate of good minerality supported by refined citrus zest characters. The palate is well balanced with tons of white fleshed fruit and a salty tang on the finish. This is one of the most delicious young Chablis we have drunk in a while. Lovely balance with plenty of fruit combined with tons of the mineral, crushed oyster shell character that we love in great Chablis. Sometimes we can find village Chablis to be a little lean and mean but not this one, super drinkable and a lovely balance between the crisp mineral freshness and white fleshed nectarines and peaches. Keeps you coming back for more! Bravo."
Domaine de la Meulière is a 24 hectare estate in the small village of Fleys, 4km from Chablis. The Laroche family have been producing Chablis since 1780. Today the estate is run by Nicolas and Vincent. Together, they represent the ninth generation of winegrowers, with their family’s winegrowing history dating back to 1779. The La Meulière estate covers 27.3 hectares, harvesting is done entirely manually, and they use a natural approach to vinification. The geology around the estate is characterized by Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils. The farm’s 34 vineyards interlock like pieces of a puzzle, half of which have been inherited from ancestral family. They are spread over the communes of Béru, Chablis, Chichée, Fontenay and Fleys (all entirely on right bank of the Serein). The vines here have an average age of 32 years. The synergy of this terroir with the Chardonnay grape provides the wines with minerality, power, floral and fruity aromas.
