This sweet wine combines two of our favourite things; Riesling at its most concentrated and great acidity, which keeps it fresh, devoid of any cloying flavours.
Late harvest Riesling is made from grapes left to hang longer than usual on the vines, providing depth of flavour and richness without an unctuous, mouth filling style.
Presenting a gorgeous amber hue, the wine is brimming with notes of dense dried apricots, honey, marmalade and a smattering of lemon peel. The palate is full of concentration and is sweet and succulent, yet also shows a great deal of complexity, and is balanced by bright, zesty acidity.
This is very good value for money. A Piedmont red under $30! It has good dark fruit, some nice tannins and acid to balance although it would benefit from some more age to smooth it a bit but I liked its feistiness now.
I was happily surprised by the quality of the labels in the "mystery" case of rose wines - great value for the money I must say. Excellent drinking experience from the unfamiliar labels and happy to enjoy again the familiar ones.
