Clarry’s is a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro with old vine Grenache from the 1940s and 1960s. The wine is fermented in open-top fermenters and basket pressed. To preserve the superb fresh fruit flavours of the wine, it is only aged in very old oak hogsheads and only for a limited time of 3-4 months. Clarry’s is soft and fruit-driven with flavours of raspberry, perfume, clove and spice. It is mouthwatering with a muscular structure and great length.
Bright red with purple edge. Aromas of vivid lifted spice, raspberry compote, violets, toffee apple, strawberry ice-cream, fresh flowers, earth. Succulent, medium-bodied, soft, rounded palate. Fine definition, crunch, freshness, balance. Red, blue fruits, chewy earthiness. Subtle tannins, muscular backbone. Long finish, very drinkable.
I haven’t tried every bottle in this selection yet, however, so far they are all very tasty. I’m a Chardonnay lover, always on the look out for a dryish not sweet wine and these are just right for me. An excellent mixed case and we’ll priced.
This was a very nice surprise in Wine Direct’s very welcome Plenty Under $20 category. Beautifully fruity, rich and smooth. Often the Plenty Under $20 range is a little light for the depth I like but I will definitely be reordering this one.
A great summer wine… elegant and a fine balance of lighter fruit and delicate acidity with a nice dry finish. Very drinkable with or without food. A nice change from our usual unoaked French Chardonnay
