“1995 was the impossible dream, an ‘Excellent’ vintage.” - Decanter Magazine

Bodega Valoria is one of only a handful of wineries able to re-release cellar-aged vintages. The 1995 vintage in Rioja saw a generous harvest of perfectly healthy grapes. Rated a rare 5 stars by the Consejo Regulador DOCa this is widely regarded as the vintage of the decade and the best since the legendary 1982, which is still tasting brilliantly today.

“A lovely mature wine. This is no surprise having previously tried the 1968, 1973, and 1982 ‘vintage of the decade’ releases, all of which are still very much alive and well. The nose is still fragrant, mellow and complex with appealing aromas of stewed plums and fig with notes of savoury tobacco leaf, dried Mediterranean herbs, and leather. Medium-bodied, soft-textured and remarkably fresh for its age with a core of delicious savoury flavours balanced by gentle tannins and salivating acidity that will provide a lovely accompaniment to cured meats, roast pork, grilled vegetables and hard cheese. It is perfect drinking now but will last in the cellar for another several years. Buy it for someone turning 30 and it will probably still be great for their 40tt birthday.”

Bodegas Valoria is in the municipality of Fuenmayor, barely 5 kilometres from Logroño, on the road to Santiago near the Grajera Natural Park. Valoria was founded by the Pérez Foncea family in 1860 and is the 6th oldest and one of the best-known wineries of La Rioja. Originally oriented towards the local market the winery was purchased by family-owned Navarro Lopez in 2010 and its production facilities expanded to 1800 barrels. The winery now has the advantage of the domestic and international distribution network of the Navarro López group, which exports its wines to more than 72 countries worldwide. Valoria is one of only a handful of wineries to re-release older cellar-aged vintages.
