An organic blend of 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah & 5% Carignan from vines at least 40 years of age.
“A much smaller production of all organically grown grapes, the 2022 Languedoc Les Darons (organic) (70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 5% Carignan) has similar red and blue fruits as well as peppery herb and garrigue-like nuances. It's medium to full-bodied, pure, and beautifully balanced, with plenty of ripe tannins and outstanding length.”
- Jeb Dunnuck
“A well-made red from old grenache with notes of cherries, blueberries, stones and black pepper. Medium body with fine, firm tannins. Textured and balanced with a compact and juicy peppery finish.”
- James Suckling
“Les Darons is a Wine Direct favourite from way back! We first imported this wine 10 years ago and still think it is one of the best wines for under $25 you could find anywhere on the planet! This is down to free-standing old bush vines, careful organic farming & some lovely sun-kissed vineyards in the heart of the Languedoc. Choke full of ripe red fruits, with a hint of licorice and classic sun dried herbs. There is freshness and structure that makes it super drinkable - Pure deliciousness. One to buy by the case”

Parisian Jeff Carrel was looking to make wines and found his way to the south of France where he has achieved some great status as a roving winemaker. One of our favourite wines from his portfolio is the delicious "Les Darons." It is a dual homage meaning "parents" in his native neighbourhood in Paris and also referencing Grenache and Carignan, the parent grape varieties to all red wines in Languedoc-Roussillon. The fruit comes from Laure-Minervois and from vines that are 40+ years old. This year's blend is a 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Carignan. The grapes are destemmed before fermentation, the wine sees no oak and is bottled ready for your immediate consumption.
