Weingut Günther Steinmetz Brauneberger Juffer Riesling GB 2021
97 POINTS: Stuart Pigott MW & JamesSuckling.com
Brauneberger Juffer Vineyard
80° South slope
Soil type, Blue - grey-brown mixed slate soil, partly with sand and gravel deposits.
From Thomas Jefferson to Theodor Fontane to the English royal family, the Brauneberger Juffer is the epitome of Riesling sophistication. Napoleon counted the site among the pearls of the Moselle. The Brauneberger Juffer and Juffer-Sonnenuhr steep slopes develop a very special microclimate. In August 1998, Jörg Kachelmann's ARD weather station, which is located in this site, recorded the highest daily temperature of 41.2°C ever measured in Germany.
"So much power and finesse are married to mandarin orange and persimmon aromas that suggests this underwent a very long fermentation. But the really astonishing stuff starts after the wine has landed on your palate, like an alien mother ship reaching earth. Super long and refined finish. Very limited production. Drink or hold."
