Domaine Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Pape Vielles Vignes 2021

95 POINTS: Robert Parker's - The Wine Advocate
94-96 POINTS: Jeb Dunnuck
95 POINTS: International Wine Review

From ancient vines on Red clay & pebbled stones. Only made in the bets vintages and produced in very limited quantities.  Only 18 bottles allocated to the NZ this year.

"An assemblage of 45% Grenache, 45% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, the 2021 Châteauneuf du Pape Vielles Vignes follows the Domaine's formula of maturing the Grenache in concrete tanks, while the Mourvèdre and Syrah go into barrel (new in this case). With the elevated Mourvèdre component, scents of truffle and tree bark accent black cherries and plums on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is concentrated and tannic from start to finish. Give it some time to mellow, as the velvety, mocha-tinged finish suggests it will evolve in a softer direction."

"The 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vielles Vignes is even more powerful, with a dense purple color as well as serious notes of blackberries, currants, ground pepper, graphite, chocolate, and violets. I love its mid-palate density, it's medium to full-bodied, has building tannins, and a great finish. It's going to need short-term cellaring, but it’s one heck of an impressive 2021."
- Jeb Dunnuck

"This estate, under the leadership of Sebastien Jaume, continues to be one of the reference point producers for relatively modern styled Châteauneuf du Papes. In addition to their top tier efforts, the portfolio is loaded with smoking values at just about every price point."
