“A ripe, modern Chianti from Sangiovese 85%, Merlot 10%, 5% others from south-facing hills of Vinci, Cerreto Guidi and the surrounding towns across altitudes of 40-130m above sea level. The 2020 Chianti Riserva is a beautiful wine that does an excellent job of stringing together the many varied components of what makes a great Chianti Classico and puts them all together in a single bottle. The wine is balanced and intense with a nose that starts off with black & red primary fruit and then moves off into the world of spice, leather, and tilled earth. The mouthfeel is equal parts structured, fresh and succulent, and these three factors fit together with precision. This is a terrific wine and one that would work with any roast meat & vegies.  Super drinkable and incredible value.”

"A lovely bouquet of classic Sangiovese with a mix of cherry and dark berries, tart red fruits and a mix of lees and wood spice highlights. Dry on the palate with as much texture as flavour, plums and tart cherry flavours, lees, wood spice and wood smoke drift. Well made, a food wine and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2030"

Sourced from the hills of Vinci in Cerreto Guidi, the fruit is crushed to tank and has brief but frequent pumping over. Fruity and spiced aromas of black pepper, cherry, fresh red berries. In the mouth it is fragrant and full-bodied, supported by soft tannins. It is balanced and intense, with excellent persistence. An excellent example of Chianti Riserva."

The wines from the Cantine Leonardo da Vinci are inspired by one of the greatest artists of all time, Leonardo da Vinci. The world knows him as a great painter, but apparently he was also an expert on wine and winemaking techniques! In the year 1961, around 30 local winegrowers in the small Vinci town of Italy, got together to establish the Cantine Leonardo da Vinci. Today, this cooperative business has grown tremendously and comprises of close to 200 winegrowers.  More recently these wines were discovered by New Zealand's own Steve Bennett MW, one of only 415 Masters of Wine in the world.  He has picked the eyes out of their range and imported only the best.  We are super happy to be able to bring these wines to our loyal Wine Direct Customers.
