Chateau de Domazan 'Jean Astier' Cotes Du Rhone 2022
91 POINTS: Wine Direct Tasting Team
"This is a gorgeous, velvety Rhône red and offers terrific value. The grapes are from vineyards around Chateauneuf du Pape and share the same stone strewn soil that promotes superb ripeness and richness of fruit. The vines are old and gnarled, producing few grapes but with rare concentration of flavour. The 2022 vintage is a cracker - spot-on with lamb, a robust cassoulet, duck or slow cooked casseroles."

Château de Domazan was built in the 14th century in the middle of Côte du Rhône vineyard, nearby Avignon. The ground is covered with large pebbles that were rolled and rounded on the old Rhône bed. These pebbles that can weigh up to 30 kg are very beneficial to the grapes because they provide excellent conditions for ripening. They store up the heat from the sun during the day and release it slowly through the mild summer nights.
