Churchill's 'Grafite' Touriga Nacional 2015
95 POINTS: Wine Direct Tasting Team
"The name Grafite acknowledges Churchill’s winemakers’ artistic signature in these hand-crafted wines. Beautifully aged, the Touriga Nacional is intense and complex on the palate, with aromas of dark berries, dried spices and wild herbs. This is a lovely example of the new wave of table wines being made in Douro Valley, traditionally the home of Port. The wine has all the richness and ripeness you would expect from this warm grape growing region, the thing we love most about it is the freshness and elegance that these special vineyard sites (Quinta da Gricha and Quinta do Rio) produce. With almost 10 years under its belt this wine is drinking perfectly and we can’t recommend it enough"

Johnny Graham left Cockburn’s as a director in 1980 to set up the first independent Port house in seventy years in Oporto. The old Graham’s ‘family’ business and its name had been sold to the Symingtons in 1970 so he chose instead to adopt his wife’s maiden name of Churchill. With the purchase of Quinta da Gricha and Quinta do Rio, both renowned Grade A vineyards in the premium Cima Corgo region of the Douro, Churchill’s is now in control from grape to bottle. As well as producing very fine, well-structured Ports, Johnny has been at the forefront of Douro red and white wine production.
The Grafite Touriga Nacional is made exclusively from Touriga Nacional grapes grown on Churchill's own Douro estates located in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior sub-regions of the Douro Valley. Matured for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd year French oak casks, it is fined and lightly filtered before bottling.
