100% Riesling
The Saumagen vineyard is one of the most celebrated sites of the Pfalz region. It has calcareous soils on a south-facing slope and delivers wines with especially high minerality and ageing potential. This Koehler-Ruprecht Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Spätlese Trocken spends one night on skins before natural ferment and maturation. In June the following year, the barrels showing the greatest elegance are selected for this blend.
“The enticing nose has a wide spectrum of stone fruits with as much mirabelle as apricot with touches of honeysuckle and passion fruit. Stunning interplay of concentrated fruit and fine chalky minerality on the focused medium-bodied palate. Very long finish where the fruit is beautifully underlined by a hint of fine tannin. Drink or hold.”

“The 2021 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Spätlese trocken is deep, pure, refined and chalky on the nose that shows clear, bright and elegant fruit with a coolish-flinty character. Lush and dense as well as crystalline and persistently saline on the palate, this is an intense, sustainably structured and perfectly fruity Saumagen Spätlese with serious substance and aging capacity. There is beautiful, persistent salinity and savoriness here. A gorgeous wine to lay down for about five years. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2022.”
