Maretti Barolo 2019

Maretti Barolo 2019

94 POINTS: Wine Direct Tasting Team
94 POINTS: Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front

"If you like Barolo, you’ll like this. It hits all the notes you’d hope for. There’s a gentle raspberried sweetness to the fruit upfront, but it quickly gives way to leather, liquorice, sage and roast beef characters, and it finishes with an excellent etching of fine-grained tannin, the latter of which does not come at the expense of flavour, which continues to push on. This wine really hits the spot. It’s very good, and the value is high."
- Campbell Mattinson

Produced by the winemaker behind the famed wines of Mirafiore and Fontanafredda, the Maretti label has signified exceptional value from Piedmont since it was first imported to New Zealand.

Unsurprisingly, given this producer's incredible track record for over-delivering for the price, the Barolo comes in at a very modest price when compared to the rest of the region. It's classically styled, too. A sea of red fruit, licorice, orange peel and fine, dusty tannin that will continue to evolve in bottle for the next decade plus.
