91 POINTS: Falstaff
"Brilliant straw yellow with golden reflections. Intense aromas of elderflowers, gooseberries, iced candy, a hint of banana and fine spice as well as acacia blossom on the nose. Fresh and juicy on the palate, with animating acidity and citrus notes on the medium finish." - Falstaff
Hand harvested in late September the thick-skinned green grapes produce a distinctive full-bodied dry white with exotic aromas of magnolia flowers and stone fruits such as apricot and nectarine. From the first sip it reveals a rich and textural wine, with ripe phenolics balanced by the variety’s characteristic freshness of acidity. Pairs splendidly with seafood dishes, such as Romagna-style fish stew, as well as with fried delicacies, herb-infused risottos, or white meats.
This is very good value for money. A Piedmont red under $30! It has good dark fruit, some nice tannins and acid to balance although it would benefit from some more age to smooth it a bit but I liked its feistiness now.
I was happily surprised by the quality of the labels in the "mystery" case of rose wines - great value for the money I must say. Excellent drinking experience from the unfamiliar labels and happy to enjoy again the familiar ones.
