Lapilli Falanghina Beneventano IGT 2023

Lapilli Falanghina Beneventano IGT 2023

95 POINTS: Luca Maroni

“The nose offers up a fresh and fruity bouquet, with predominant notes of citrus, pineapple and white flowers. On the palate it is very fresh, thanks to a marked acidity well balanced by the structure of the wine. The name Falanghina comes from the word falanga which describes the local, traditional pole used for supporting the vines. The vineyards are south-east facing at between 250 and 300 metres above sea level and the vines are around 15 years old. The grapes are harvested in the second half of September and the beginning of October and after fermentation, they spend 3 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks, before further refining in bottle.”

Lapilli is a type of tephra, the material that falls out of the air during a volcanic eruption. Lapilli means “little stones” in Latin and was created in 1996 as a family run business in the Avellino province of Campania, by a family who had been growing grapes since the 1960s and has been meticulously managed by its dedicated team ever since. Falanghina is an ancient, relatively unknown grape, cultivated in Campo Flegrei, inland from Naples in the area of Mount Taburno near Benevento
