Querciabella Chianti Classico Single Vineyard Gran Selezione 2017
96+ POINTS: Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com
A new project from Querciabella, all the fruit comes from high altitude vineyards on the Ruffoli hill, in the commune of Greve. Classically made, this is a profound, complex, ageworthy wine from Querciabella. There’s so much going on here, and the texture is astonishing. A new benchmark for Chianti?
“The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a new wine in this range done in a super-classic style that saw 45 days on the skins, with submerged cap fermentation, an approach most often associated with old school Piedmont wines. The purity of the Sangiovese fruit is simply mind-blowing. Fine-grained tannins and an impossibly persistent finish round thins out in style. The new Gran Selezione is one of the most compelling young wines I have ever tasted at Querciabella." — Antonio Galloni on June 2022
We've been fans of their Syrah and Chardonnay for some time and this is another go-to product we'll add to the list.
Light in colour, but plenty of depth and flavour and pleasingly dry.
Highly recommended.
I haven’t tried every bottle in this selection yet, however, so far they are all very tasty. I’m a Chardonnay lover, always on the look out for a dryish not sweet wine and these are just right for me. An excellent mixed case and we’ll priced.
This was a very nice surprise in Wine Direct’s very welcome Plenty Under $20 category. Beautifully fruity, rich and smooth. Often the Plenty Under $20 range is a little light for the depth I like but I will definitely be reordering this one.
A great summer wine… elegant and a fine balance of lighter fruit and delicate acidity with a nice dry finish. Very drinkable with or without food. A nice change from our usual unoaked French Chardonnay
