Gaja Rossj Bass Chardonnay 2022
95-94 POINTS: Heiner Lobenberg
The ‘Montrachet’ of Piedmont
14% Abv. 90% Chardonnay, 10% Sauvignon Blanc
“Angelo Gaja dedicated this wine to his daughter Rossana, the Chardonnay vines were planted back in the early 1980s. Matured in a mixture of used barriques and steel tanks. Soft yellow with green reflections. The 2022 has ripe fruit and the finest wood on the nose, slightly exotic on the palate, acacia blossom and a hint of vanilla. Very full-bodied, yet rather delicate and elegant due to the chalky, almost salty minerality. Very balanced and definitely everybody's darling.”

Gaja’s Rossj Bass 2022 comes from several vineyards, including the Rossj vineyard, located in Barbaresco and Serralunga d’Alba. It is made from Chardonnay & Sauvignon grapes from Piedmont in an intense, smooth and full-bodied style. The must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16-18°C for about 4 weeks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques and then the wine matures in the same vessels for about 7 months.
