Famille Paquet ‘Macon Village ‘Nos Cinq Terroirs’ 2022
94 POINTS: Wine Direct Tasting Team
94 POINTS & 5 STARS: Sam Kim; The Wine Orbit
Organic, 40+ year old vines.
"Insider alert! With the price of white burgundy going through the roof, Macon is the place to be for brilliant quality and outstanding value. A blend of fruit from parcels across the Mâconnais, this “alliance” of the best terroirs (and 30-40 year-old vines) delivers a wine that’s a serious overachiever. Spice and mineral, floral energy galore; a lovely young Burgundian Chardonnay that drinks beautifully now but will happily cellar for the next few years."

"It’s gorgeously inviting on the nose, showing apricot, lemon pith, savoury pastry and rockmelon notes, leading to a juicy palate that’s finely flowing with beautifully pitched acidity. Gorgeously composed and expressed with finesse as well as generously textured mouthfeel. At its best: now to 2030. RRP $47.00"

For outstanding Burgundy that offers value too, head straight for the Mâcon and this superb 3rd-generation estate. Fruit from the 30-year-old vines, a slow fermentation and lees stirring add up to a slightly rich fruit style with impressive complexity. Nos Cinq Terroirs (Our Five Terroirs), is a tribute to the merging of vineyards across the Mâcon-Villages, Saint-Véran, and Pouilly-Fuissé appellations started by Jocelyne and Michel Paquet in 1980. Nowadays their children, Camille, Mathieu and Jean-Baptiste, continue the tradition. Camille oversees viticulture and winemaking, while Mathieu and Jean-Baptiste handle selling the wine.
The Paquet family carefully tends to each of their 50 plots, using only local organic and biodynamic compost to keep the soil healthy. The newer generation aims to honour their family's past while exploring a more hands-off winemaking style. In 2021, they achieved their first certified organic vintage.
