Garnacha 90%, Moristel, Bobal, Garnacha Blanca

“The single-vineyard red 2019 Manda Huevos Tinto Caña Andrea was produced with a Garnacha field blend with some 10% other varieties, Moristel, Bobal and Garnacha Blanca. It comes from a 0.8-hectare plot planted in 1908 on a gentle slope at 750 meters in altitude in the village of Villarroya de la Sierra plus a newer and slightly flatter 0.7-hectare adjacent plot planted in 1970. They used 20% full clusters for the fermentation in an open-top fermenter and the élevage was in 875-liter Flextank eggs (except for one neutral 500-liter oak barrel). It has a bright ruby color and an expressive nose, good ripeness without excess, good freshness and a medium-bodied palate with abundant, chalky tannins. It's perfumed, fine and aromatic. This is always produced with the same vineyards, which keep a stable profile of wine. 3,731 bottles were filled in May 2021.”

A blend from two parcels of the Caña Andrea vineyard in Villarroya de la Sierra. Arriba (higher): Planted in 1908: 0.8 ha. 80-85% Garnacha Fina with an additional mixture of Moristel, Bobal and Garnacha Blanca. Soil is a glacial/co-alluvial mixture of red clay, pudding stones and limestone. N.E. facing with gentle slope. 750 metres above sea level. Abajo (lower) : Planted in 1970, 0.7 ha. 100% Garnacha Fina, similar soil characteristics as above but flatter and set within a red clay escarpment 730 metres above sea level. North facing. The Caña Andrea parcel, full of pudding stones and deep, well-drained clays and gravels, performed superbly in the hot growing season of 2019 to produce a fresh well balanced crop. Crushed to tank layer cake fashion with 20% whole bunch. Fermented together in an open top 5 tonne fermenter, with punch downs only for gentle extraction, malolactic fermentation partly on skins before pressing to a combination of 3 flexitank eggs of 875 litres and one old 650 litre French oak barrel. Aged for 14 months sur lie before assemblage in concrete and bottling in May 2021. Released after 18 months in bottle, the wine is now perfectly poised and ready for drinking. Expressive, perfumed aromatics, medium bodied with fine tannins and wonderful freshness.
