GOLD MEDAL: China wine and Spirits Awards 2020

A classic blend of Shiraz 63%, Grenache 28% & Carignan 9% from the 'Premier Cru' La Livinière.

It is very usual to be able to find a parcel of stock that has been carefully cellared and then released as a mature wine.  This is ready to roll not cellaring required, perfect for the approaching BBQ season!

"Deep ruby to garnet in the glass, Domaine Tour Trencavel show an expressive nose of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and plums, layered with garrigue herbs (thyme, rosemary, lavender) that are so typical of the Languedoc. A touch of black pepper & liquorice are also present. On the palate, they are full-bodied and generous, with a supple texture and smooth but structured tannins. Flavours of dark fruit are carried by a savoury edge, with dried herbs, spice, and a stony minerality echoing the sun-drenched, limestone-rich terroir. The finish is long & warming"

The estate belonged to the Viscountess of Narbonne in 977, then to the clergy and after several changes of ownership it was purchased in 1982 to the rugby player Lucien Rogé. More recently it was purchased by Grands Chais de France, a powerful group revolutionising the Languedoc-Roussillon with investment and a switch to organic viticulture. The vineyards lie between 120–400m altitude, on poor, rocky soils of limestone, schist and sandstone. This unique terroir, combined with hot Mediterranean days and cool nights, produces red wines of both power and elegance: concentrated dark fruit, wild herbs, spice, and firm yet polished tannins.

In 1999, La Livinière became the very first terroir in the Languedoc to be officially recognized as a “cru” (Premier Cru) within the appellation system. Nestled in the foothills of the Montagne Noire, at the heart of Minervois, it is now regarded as one of the finest vineyard areas in southern France.
