“I'm so enthusiastic about this totally different NZ Sauvignon Blanc from Dog Point, because the grape variety is really fun here! The wine is a delicate lemon yellow with a hint of silver in the glass. At first, it rises from the glass with linear elegance and a delicately stony, flint-like reduction reminiscent of a freshly lit match. Classy! After just a few minutes, more and more playful, exotic notes of passion fruit, guava, tangerine, fragrant mandarin peel, quince, pure blueberries, lemon juice and dusty limestone powder with a salty touch are added. Alpine flowers, delicately fragrant spicy herbs, some fennel and dried mint also develop - but everything remains infinitely rich in finesse and playfully delicate, even almost floating, while the stony minerality becomes ever louder. Tasted blind, the elegance of this Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc would surely place it in the Loire rather than New Zealand! In the mouth, a combination of lemon and grapefruit juice with a little juniper berry hits the tongue in a refreshing way. Aromatically, this is almost like an ultra-floating, perfect gin & tonic with a grapefruit garnish. The delicate feel leaves ripe passion fruit and galia melon in the mouth, which keeps the refreshing, juicy acidity of the wine creamy, almost soft and round in check. This is a kind of white Burgundy from the Loire with a fabulously creamy, fresh finesse. This ingenious wine can happily disappear into the cellar for a few years - in my opinion, it will gain even more complexity and density with another one or two years in the bottle. A "class of its own" and "hand on heart", for me the best Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand!”

“The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc leads with a distinct nose of freshly picked curry leaf, crushed sea shells, lemon zest, asphalt, mustard seed, dried coriander/coriander seed and white flesh orchard fruit. This is powerfully fruited, has great energy and drive and, unsurprisingly, offers great pleasure and satisfying drinking. This is a very smart, savory wine here. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.”
