Rarely seen outside of Austria, Grüner Veltliner is quietly making its mark in New Zealand — and this expressive, finely detailed example from Mt Edward is proof of its exciting potential.

"The 2018 Grüner Veltliner leads with roasted tropical fruits, charred pineapple, cheese cloth, churned butter and pressed flowers. In the mouth, the wine is complex, textural and dry, with layers of flavor and bright acidity that tuck points into the detail here. The textural palate feels associated with aging on the lees in tank or neutral barrels, and this has contributed an extra dimension of experience. This is a decidedly gourmand wine, one eminently suited to a meal. It is very good. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."
