Castell Reynoard Pur Ju 2019
95 POINTS: Wine Direct Tasting Team
Organic & Biodynamic.
Southern French blend of Carignan & Alicante
"This is my kind of natural wine, all about purity of fruit & vineyard expression. A blend of 85% Carignan and 15% Alicante. The Carignan sings with its rustic, craggy, herby southern goodness. This wine will transport you to the sun drenched Languedoc. Can't recommend this enough. In a world where a lot of wine can simply be versions on a theme this stands out as one persons take on a specific place, using old vines and organic agriculture. Bravo!"

Domaine Castell-Reynoard, nestled in the heart of Provence's Bandol appellation, is a family-run estate led by fourth-generation winemaker Julien Castell. Building upon the legacy of his father and grandfather, Julien has transformed the 10-hectare vineyard into a model of sustainable viticulture, emphasizing biodynamics, agroforestry, and permaculture. Rejecting conventional practices, the estate has eliminated the use of copper and sulfur treatments since 2016 and ceased mechanical soil work, opting instead for individualized vine care and natural soil enrichment through companion planting and the integration of fruit trees and market gardens. This holistic approach extends to the cellar, where wines are crafted without filtration or fining, and with minimal sulfite additions, resulting in expressive, terroir-driven wines that reflect the vibrant ecosystem from which they originate.
