This Susumaniello has it all!. Experience the pure power of the Italian south in the glass!

Italy’s deep south is best known for rich, smoky & smooth red wines made from its prized local varieties – Primitivo, Negroamaro, and in this case the uniquely Puglian Susumaniello grape. In local dialect Susumaniello means something like “loaded like a donkey”, referring to the wine’s massive amounts of aroma and flavour. In recent years, Susumaniello has seen a resurgence in popularity, with more winemakers focusing on its potential to produce high-quality wines. Its revival is part of a broader movement to celebrate and promote Italy's diverse viticultural heritage.  As fans of southern Italian wines – and Boccantino fans in particular – will agree, Puglia offers “undreamed-of character and potential” (Hugh Johnson), and mouthwatering Susumaniello is the fabulous example of this. Serve in large glasses with braised lamb shanks or caponata….or anything hearty.

"Get the taste of Southern Italy with this Susumaniello from our friends at Boccantino. Black plums, blackberry and black pepper on the nose. Great intensity and warmth on the palate, smooth and soft. Delicious. Part of the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and another part in large oak barrels."
