"This wine is made from Garnacha Fina and Garnacha Peluda 60%, Syrah 30% and Cariñena 10% from 20 to 40 years-old vineyards in different terroirs: “tapàsand argilles”(Grenache and Syrah), and ”tapàs blanc” (Carignan) respectively. After fermentation each wine is aged by grape variety for around 12 months in 300 litre French oak barrels before being blended and bottled. Aromas display ripe red fruit such as raspberries and cherries. After a little air, dark fruits and balsamic notes appear. Full bodied, lush, long and persistent finish with sweet and balanced tannins."
Edetària produces authentic, characterful wines from indigenous grapes, with the purest soil expression, from old vines and organic winemaking in Gandesa, at the heart of DO Terra Alta, 170km south of Barcelona.
It is named after “Via Edetana”, the roman road Romana that stretched between Torotosa and Zaragoza. Edetans already lived in Terra Alta before Romanization, and left archaeological remains such as nearby Coll del Moro, the oldest winemaking site in Catalunya.
Joan Àngel Lliberia, the company’s heart and soul, started Edetària after Agricultural Engineering studies in Lleida and a Master of Science in Wine Management at OIV. His return to Catalunya followed the tradition of his oenologist grandfather and viticulturer parents and started with his family’s vineyards.
