Les Heritiers Saint-Genys Morgon 'Aux Charmes' 2018

97 POINTS: Stuart Pigott
95 POINTS: Wine Direct Tasting Team

With the global recession kicking in we are picking up some lovely parcels of highly sort after wines at discounted prices.  Our latest discovery is from Burgundy powerhouse Les Heritiers Saint-Genys who happen to own a beautiful plot in the Cru Beaujolais vineyard of Morgon.  We purchased this directly from the winery in France and transported to New Zealand in a temperature-controlled container to be sold directly to you, our Wine Direct customers.  No middle man to blow out the price!  Only 60 bottles available.

Morgon is probably the most famous of the Beaujolais Crus, alongside Fleurie, and it has long been said that this appellation combines the 'charm of a Burgundy and the fruit of a Beaujolais'. This Aux Charmes 2018 is sourced from a plot of 50 year old vines in the south-west of Villié-Morgon and wowed Stuart Pigott of JamesSuckling.com, who gave it a huge 97 points. Made from 100% destemmed fruit, there is 'sensational perfume' on the nose that seduces from the outset. The palate is 'rich and sensual, yet so refined and complete'. There is 'mind-blowing concentration' on the incredibly long finish, and its 'gigantic climax' will leave a lasting imprint in anyones memory.

"What a sensational perfume this Morgon has! So rich and sensual, yet so refined and complete on the enveloping yet delicate palate. Mind-blowing concentration at the breathtakingly long finish that builds to a gigantic climax. Drink or hold."
- James Suckling

"Beaujolais today is one of France's trendiest regions. Its wines are delicious, appealing and exciting. And Morgon is one of its most sought-after Cru villages. A 'climat' is the closest Beaujolais gets to Burgundy's Grand Cru system and Les Heritiers Saint-Genys Aux Charmes really lives up to its name. Rich and elegant, overflowing with wild berries, cherries & exotic spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with supple tannins and a long, resonant finish, it represents a terrific achievement from the team at Les Heritiers Saint-Genys."
