Gut Hermannsberg Riesling Schlossböckelheim Felsenberg GG 2021
96 POINTS: Stuart Pigott, James Suckling.com
95+ POINTS: Falstaff, Ulrich Sautter
94+ POINTS: Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
This famous, somewhat extreme site with optimum southerly exposure is a real “Riesling greenhouse”. The stony soil is scree from the volcanic rock faces above the vines, the red-grey melaphyr rock warming easily. All this gives the wines a combination of great ripeness and deep spiciness.
“Welcome to the smoke hole of German dry riesling, and with a little aeration the pineapple and ripe yellow-grapefruit aromas develop. Excellent structure and so much energy. The touch of grapefruit-pith bitterness on the finish only adds to the vitality. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.”
- Stuart Pigott, James Suckling.com
“The 2021 Schlossböckelheim Felsenberg GG is clear yet still reductive on the deep and intense, stony and herbal nose. Full-bodied, powerful and really substantial on the palate, this is a saline, very elegant and persistent Felsenberg with serious grip and a long, complex, saline, crystalline and compact finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2022.”
