Gut Hermannsberg Riesling Niederhausen Steinberg GG 2021

Gut Hermannsberg Riesling Niederhausen Steinberg GG 2021

96 POINTS: Stuart Pigott, James
94+ POINTS: Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

The Steinberg stands high above the Hermannsberg and next-door to the legendary Kupfergrube. It’s a steep south-southwest facing hillside is ruled by stone (hence Steinberg), principally Lemberg porphyry, a volcanic rock that reflects much of the solar energy due to its pale, yellowish colour. Together with the poorness of the soil this gives cool and pristine wines with a crystalline structure.

“From pure rhyolite soils, the 2021 Niederhausen Steinberg GG offers a ripe, pure, flinty, well-concentrated and very elegant nose of ripe fruit. Lush and elegant on the palate, this is an intense, very complex, tight and sustainable dry Riesling with power and concentration but also purity and great tension. This is a long-distance runner that already shows its layers but will unfold its talents in three or four years, at the earliest. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2022.”
 - Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

“The beauty of the citrus fruit (the zest, the pith and the juice!) is on full display here. Concentrated and juicy front palate, then the minerality and the tobacco-leaf character climbs slowly out of the depths. Such exciting crushed-stone minerality at the very long and focused finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold.”
