Château de Pierreux Beaujolais Grande Réserve Brouilly 2021

Château de Pierreux Beaujolais Grande Réserve Brouilly 2021

94 POINTS: James Suckling

SILVER MEDAL: International du Gamay

"This concentrated and beautifully crafted Brouilly has clearly been made for long aging and already has excellent integration of redcurrant and sour cherry fruit with spicy oak and stacks of fine tannins. The rich and silky palate is wonderfully atypical for the 2021 vintage. Long velvety and spicy finish. Filled in Bordeaux-shaped bottles. Drinkable now, but best to leave it for a few years to develop."
- James Suckling

"We really like the 2021 vintage in Beaujolais, a more 'typical' year than the last few vintages.  2021 is all about precise aromatics and lovely minerality. The Chateau de Pierreux 2021 Brouilly Grande Reserve is an over-performer this year, offering up aromas of smoky cherries, berries, spices and orange rind, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and charming palate that's seamless, fresh with a lovely lick of minerality. Serious wine that can be happily drunk now or left for a few years to settle into itself"

Château de Pierreux has been shaped by several centuries of history. Vineyards are planted in shallow, well-drained pink granitic, schistous and siliceous soils which contain deposits of blue porphyry from the volcanic eruptions of Mont Brouilly. Growing methods follow the environmentally friendly lutte raisonnée approach.

Today Château de Pierreux is one of the most beautiful estates in the Beaujolais region, facing the Mont Brouilly and surrounded by 77 hectares of Brouilly vineyards, exclusively planted with Gamay. The wine is fine, elegant and well-balanced with soft, silky tannins summing up an excellent style style from the estate.
