Bodegas Pintia Toro D.O. Tinto 2017
95 POINTS: Josh Raynolds, Vinous
95 POINTS: James Suckling
94+ POINTS: Robert Parker's - The Wine Advocate
"Saturated ruby. Expansive cherry, black raspberry, potpourri and exotic spice aromas are complemented by subtle licorice and woodsmoke flourishes. Vibrant and sharply focused in the mouth, with a spine of juicy acidity adding focus to palate-staining black and blue fruit liqueur, violet pastille, mocha and spicecake flavors. The floral quality resonates emphatically on the clinging finish, which features lingering cherry and smoky mineral notes. There's noteworthy elegance here, a trait that's not exactly common for Toro."

"Lots of spices and bright fruit for such a ripe, hot vintage. Some orange-peel undertones. Full-bodied and layered with beautiful fruit and length. Really nicely done. Another two or three years will soften it."
- James Suckling
Vega Sicilia’s 96-hectare Toro project, quickly established itself as a leading bodega in the DO. The Alvarez family launched the bodega with its purchase in 1996, quality has been on a steady rise since then. While the wine definitely shows the depth, richness and power that defines Toro, there’s a distinct elegance to it as well. It also ages effortlessly and really deserves patience, even if there’s always abundant, upfront fruit character, regardless of vintage. As at Vega Sicilia, the wine, which is 100% Tempranillo, from vines that range from about 40 to 60 years old, goes through all of its fermentations in French and American oak casks and is bottled after 14 months and then kept in bottle for two years before release.
