Vina Valoria Rioja Gran Reserva 2013

“It’s alluring and seductive. Superbly maturing, it’s totally delicious”
- Sam Kim
"A core of cherry then red with an amber hue and rim lead to a bouquet of complexity, baking spices and dries red fruits and leather. Give this wine time to open out in glass, it will surprise you with its fine integrated textures, tobacco, dried fruits, drying flowers and bitter-chocolate flavours. Five spice and aged meats, a whisper of coconut, velvet tannin textures, medium acid line and lengthy earthy finish, a delicious wine that is ready to drink."

Made from 100% Tempranillo fruit aged for 36 months in American oak and held for five years before release and now with some decent age under its belt - what's not to like. Bold and powerful with spicy fruit and mellow tannins Rioja Reservas really are a law unto themselves and given half a chance the oak just melts into the aged tertiary flavours harmoniously.
Bodegas Valoria is located in the Municipality of Fuenmayor, barely 5 kilometres from Logroño, right on the road to Santiago very near the Grajera Natural Park. Valoria was founded by the Pérez Foncea family in 1860 and is the 6th oldest and one of the best-known wineries of La Rioja. Originally oriented towards the local market the winery was purchased by family-owned Navarro Lopez in 2010 and its production facilities expanded to 1800 barrels. The winery now exports 40% of its wines to more than 72 countries all over the world. Rioja’s signature variety Tempranillo is hand harvested from mature vines sourced from Rioja Alta vineyards around the town of Fuenmayor. Temperature controlled fermentation and maceration is carried out in stainless steel to preserve fruit freshness before maturation for 24 months in French and American oak barrels and at least 36 months bottle aged before release.
