Chateau le Chatelet Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2016

Chateau le Chatelet Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2016

90 POINTS: Decanter Magazine
94 POINTS: Wine Direct Tasting Team

A blend of 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc that spends 14 months, with 45% in new barrels, 40% in second-use barrels, and 15% in amphoras. Packed in original wooden case of 6.  Another aged Bordeaux that should be on everyones radar.

"Owned by Julien Berjal, this is a small 3.8ha property up on the limestone plateau. Richly extracted blackberry and black cherry fruit on the nose, not overdone and certainly well defined. Tight tannins could still let their foot off the pedal another notch. 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc aged in 50% new oak."
- Decanter Magazine

Considering its privileged position, sandwiched directly between two highly regarded stalwarts of the St Emilion appellation, Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot (just to the west) and Clos Fourtet (on the opposite side, to the east), Château Le Chatelet has maintained a surprisingly low profile for many years.  This is great news for consumers as prices of its neigbours have skyrockted!
